How Poor Writing Skills Can Mess Up Your Blog’s Growth?

by Rahul Kuntala · 28 comments

poor writing skills can make you look dumbPoor writing skills = Take a gun – shoot yourself in the head

Once imagine this yourself before diving into the post…

You’ve written a GREAT blog post which took almost 10 days to finish.

One fine morning, you’ve decided to publish it.

What if no one reads, comment or share your great blog post even after 3 days you hit the publish button?

Very disappointing.. right?

Probably the reasons could be;

  • Your great post doesn’t add any value to your readers
  • Just another post
  • Poor writing skills etc

I strongly believe that if you’ve convincing writing skills, you can CONVEY anything that you write. Even if it’s a just another post!

Are you getting me?

Online readers hate to read the blogs with poor writing skills.

Is this true or just a myth?

I don’t think it’s a myth. There must be a reason for anyone to read your blog. If your articles have lots of grammatical mistakes, no one would be interested in reading further, do you?

Make sure you’re writing something worth reading.

Your words should sell.

Your readers should feel encouraged to write something NEW on their blogs after reading your blog posts. Do you’ve that commitment?

Online readers love to read professional advice.

I didn’t mean that you need to have master’s degree in English literature to write a great copy – but you should at least be bothering about creating a compelling copy to attract your visitors.

If your copy is good, it will attract more people to read your blog, simple as that.

If you can’t create unique content – strive to have a unique writing style.

You actually DON’T NEED to create unique content, if you’ve a unique writing style.

Let me explain this point..

There’s tons of content being published each and every day on blogosphere, agree?

Then how come YOU can create something unique??

Is it REALLY possible to create unique content?

My answer is NO..

You can’t create unique content, you can only write something in a unique way and that’s how unique content can be created.

So work your butt off to hone your writing skills. Your WRITING matters A LOT.

Here are 3 tips to hone your writing skills

Want to become a top class writer?

Then..

Read..

…MORE

The more you read, the better you’ll learn HOW TO WRITE.

You can’t become a great writer, if you’re not a great reader.

So spend your time on reading online stuff. Read each and every word that you come across online, don’t just skim through. Within few weeks, you’ll notice the difference.

The problem with most online readers is this: they always SKIM.

So.. there’s no way they can become great writers. So try to read more than you write if you’re just starting out – this helps you A LOT to hone your writing skills.

Write more.

If you want to become a great soccer player, play more soccer.

If you want to become a painter, draw more.

Likewise, if you want to become a great writer, write more.

Spend quality time on writing something. Be it anything, about your niche, love, crush, or recently watched movies, it could be anything. Just focus on writing more. This is the only way to write more better.

Proof read twice.

Most bloggers do this wrong. They don’t spend time on proof reading their writing.

If you don’t care your own writing, why would anyone care?

So.. focus on reading what you write at least twice.

This is really a good habit to write flawless contents.

So.. how is your writing? Do you care to hone your writing skills?

Yeah your point is right Rahul,

Poor writing can destroy your blog.

We should learn writing correctly even before starting blogging because if we start without any knowledge, it hurts very much when we start getting readers.

Hi Rahul,
Poor writing makes blog as a rough copy. There is lot of blogs creating lots of content so we can not write unique, and if our blog has poor writing skills then what makes reader to read our blog. Improving writing skills solve both problem. We can write with unique style and readers will read it.

Hi Suggu,

So when you’re going to start a ‘professional blog’?

You can hone your writing skills only when you’re writing more. Make sure you’re not doing blunder mistakes (refer best sites to learn to hone your writing skills) when you’re writing something on your own blogs.

Additionally to the writing skills, I find very important to have a proper distribution of the content (including headers, spaces and even typography).
Otherwise, the reading will be difficult even with good orthography or great content.

I totally agree with the post.I think in todays digital era, ‘Content is king’.There are so many article spinners and cheap writers out there, but inspite of being new to the blogosphere,I am glad i did not fall prey to those. Thanks to websites like these which are an eye-opener!

Hi Bro,
This is very correct what you share here. We keep learning every day. It’s not easy to really write and drive the message home. One obstacle is the language – Most bloggers have to deal with this language barrier first. If you are not comfortable with a certain language, chances are you are going to be unable to develop your writing skills in that language.

Thanks for sharing the tips

Hi Rahul,
I agree with your Points, if you have a unique writing style you can grab the attention of all new readers, maybe you are writing a Post on similar topic written by others but your creativity can lead you among others.
And Writing is the only way to Improve blog growth, there are thousands of blogs who are writing the same thing, but those who write same in different style wins the race.
Thanks for such a wonderful Post!

Hi Rahul! Thank for the post.

As a newbie in blogging I did’nt given much importance to proof reading because I was beleiving that I am a very good writer. And this thing really hurt me. It is the fact the I am good writer but If you are good writer still proof reading is must. Because Human’s are never flawless.

Great piece of content dude!
Writing skills are must, if he/she is dealing with readers. At least, the reader should understand the difference between the present and past actions. Writing your future dreams in past tense doesn’t make sense, right?

And you’ve greatly executed the importance, once again!

Cheers

Very true comments Rahul. I’d add that people with new sites, will have some difficulty getting instant comments and shares like an established site would. An established site has the ability to attract people instantly where as someone with a new site might not.

I know that reading is a must for everyone but writing is the main thing on which we are focusing. So, if we write more than reading than we can really improve our writing SKILLS.
